To Bands: For Your Consideration

Hidey-Ho Internets,

Playing with a new band can sometimes feel like a first date. You’re never really sure of their intentions entirely. Over the last year it’s funny to see how band’s would tell us upon meeting them “hey, let’s get a show together sometime!” It’s almost like a nervous tick for most bands. We’ve also had bands talk about how they want to make this “rock ‘n’ roll” scene and in the end just go trend chasing with the rest of ‘em. While we wish all bands the best of luck with how they do their business, we wanted to take a minute to illustrate what it is the Brisbones look for in another band.

It’s simple really.

1) Love the music that you’re playing: if you’re uncomfortable with your music, then we probably will be too. We like playing with people who are having a good time making the kind of music they like. I don’t think too many bands we’ve met have a problem with this.

2) Respect what we’re doing: if you don’t like us, don’t expect us to help you out. Like Mr. Tweedy says, “I’ll side with you if you side with me”

3) Act professionally: don’t give the venues a hard time. You’re not the Who and these venues are not “the man”

That’s it. We’re looking to form a network of bands who can put on a quality show where everyone can have fun with one another. Our hope is that over time people will start associating bands with one another as we play shows together and will know that it will be worth their $5-$7 bucks to stick around for the whole night. We think that’s a reasonable goal.

We’ve seen so many bands get all this hype about being the next “hootie” or whatever, but for whatever reason every single one of them just didn’t make it. It’s our belief that our method will not only bring one band to national success, but many other bands that jump on with this. Before we expect large audiences, the Brisbones’ priority is to put together quality shows.
