Things Coming Up and What-not

‘Sup gang,

So we’re keeping pretty busy. We’re trying to get the hell out of Columbia right now. Because even though our hearts overflow with gratefulness to those who have shown their support, things just haven’t felt right here in our home city. Unfortunate but true. Columbia will always have a sentimental place in our hearts, but we don’t feel that this is the place where things are really going to take off for us. It might be our fault for oversaturating this town with shows, but we’re broke and in hard times as individuals and getting shows here and writing songs has been hard enough.

We’ve got some videos and new songs that will be coming out before too long. We’ll keep you posted about that.

I’d like to take the time to name a few people who have been with us along the way(beyond just our close, personal friends):

Promoters:

David Stringer: our band got started not too long after he started putting together SceneSC and it’s been awesome to see how far he’s been able to bring it along over the last year. He’s been giving us the nod despite our inability to draw big crowds, and we can’t thank him enough. There’s a lot wrong with this Columbia scene and David is one who would like to help make it healthier. Thanks, David!

Seth Birkes: Seth has been an avid supporter of us pretty much from the start. He’s recently hooked us up with a show at the Elbow Room. For some reason, the word is the owner really wants to keep it just a bar…why the hell he would call it the Elbow Room and keep it as a non-venue is beyond me…Seth is one person who is trying to see that music stays a part of the venue. We wish him the best of luck with it cause the Columbia scene can be a bitch sometimes.

Bentz Kirby: Bentz is another one who has been diggin our tunes from the very beginning as well. He’s the guy who gave us our first show that-despite the usual tendency of most first time shows-went pretty well. Like his cousin/or-however-the-hell-they’re-related David Stringer, he’s been a local promoter of the Columbia scene. A gentleman and a great promoter, we’ve been blessed to get to know him over the last year.

Venues:

New Brookland Tavern and the Art Bar:
Danny and Mike Lyons run New Brookland and Marty Fort runs the booking for Art Bar. Without these two venues, Columbia would be hopeless as a music town. Headliners is a joke and every other place would rather you play acoustic or cover songs. Zach runs sound at Art Bar and is one of the few people who can make that room work sound-wise. John runs sound at New Brookland and is one of the greatest sound people in Columbia. These are the only two venues right now who are actually working WITH the bands. Even though we will be looking to leave Columbia, we will always be available to jump on a show with these guys.

Press:

Kevin Oliver/Patrick Wall: Writers for the Free Times, Kevin has done the writing while Patrick has done the delegating. We haven’t had the privilege of meeting these guys. We hope to they can make it to one of our shows and get a better idea of what we’re all about.

Otis Taylor: Writer for the State, he’s given us a few mentions that-even though they’re just a few sentences-will no doubt help us to convince venues out of town that we’re the greatest thing since jambalaya.

So there you have it. We’d recommend any of these people to bands who are on the up-and-coming. Keep posted for updates!
